LESSONS & WORKSHOPS

Private Lessons

In a private lesson you can expect guidance through verbal instruction and gentle touch in simple activities - sitting, standing, walking and laying on a bodywork table. Through this process you become aware of how your habitual coordination works and learn how to respond more naturally.

As your perception becomes more accurate, you learn how to apply your skill to more complex activities - playing an instrument, public speaking, working with a PC or other specific tools.

After a series of lessons, students acquire a clearer understanding of their coordination in activity, and the amount of effort needed to function with greater ease, freedom in movement and control.

Workshops

When it comes to learning a skill like the Alexander Technique nothing surpasses the effectiveness of a one on one lessons. However, much can be gained in terms of ones awareness and the use or over use of effort in a group class or a workshop.

I offer a variety of workshops ranging from a two hour lecture demonstration with time for questions to a nine week course in the technique for a specific group with a shared interest e.g. musicians, dancers, actors, public speakers, teachers.

Syllabus for a two hour lecture/demonstration

  • A brief historical background of FM Alexander and his discovery
  • Body mapping: a functional understanding of our design
  • A look at how and why we misuse ourselves
  • A different approach: learning to not do what doesn't serve us
  • Demonstration with participants and answering questions
